The Troubadour

Shoeless Joe - 1200

Shane Sayers is a songwriter. A damn fine songwriter. But between the stanzas and the bridges and all along that long road, he's always been a Sox fan. A damn fine Sox fan and a true believer in the beauty of the game.

Helped him track this piece down back in April (‘21) and made it right for him. Haven't had much opportunity due to quarantine and distance to really see how it holds up, but looking forward to Spring wherein we can toss and catch up on all the stories from the songs he's written since.

Gave the piece a deep clean and sent it through quite a long, slow process of bringing the leather back both by Ballplayer’s Balm products. Seriously dig the web he chose. Harkens back to 60's webs and has a certain tobacco leaf feel to it which just adds to the mystic behind the vintage, Shoeless Joe appeal.

Went ahead and replaced the thumb and pinky felts as well as the plastic stay within. Used F7 felt (somewhat softer in the scheme of glove felts) but with a tight stitch and new HDPE plastic stays, it seems to emulate the proper flex well. If this somehow sulks in the face of stress, I plan on giving that aspect attention. As he has a luthier for his guitar, he's got a glovesmith in me.

Laces used were supplied by Flatbill Baseball and hand skived in the proper areas. Every brand of lace has a different 'feel' to them. And getting to know those feels helps to compliment the balance of the glove when chosen correctly. So far, Flatbill laces have a tendency to bridge a staggering swath of glove types and must say I've been continuously impressed by what they have to offer. They tend to come in a thicker gauge than most which is a beautiful thing if you skive your own laces. Basically means the balance of that lace to glove aspect is up to me. I'm sure there's a science to it, but it feels more like a whispering thing. And I love that.

Shoeless Joe palm areas are known to be somewhat thin so I installed a really sturdy 5oz palm pad which I based on patents of high end Rawlings Dual Core pads. Pad itself is 'sewn in', or rather laced to the heel and battened down within the fingers. Also held in place by the pocket forming oven-heated glove grease, GluvLuv. It's a seriously great weekend gamer and one I hope he carries with him on the road as he pencils in muses to field his lyrics
